This collection consists of an index to prisoner registers from the Hamar District Prison in Hamar, Norway, for the years 1877 to 1896. The prison was built in 1864 and had capacity of 31 prisoners. Index provided by Slekt og Data Norge. The original records are in the possession of Statsarkivet i Hamar, Hamar byfogd og byskriver SAH/TING-046/Æ/Æa/L0001 Fangejournal, 4 May 1877-28 April 1896.

• Straffange are prisoners who are serving a sentence as the result of being convicted of a crime. Varetegtsfange (Norwegian bokmål: varetektsfange) are prisoners who are remanded into custody to await trial or continuation.
