This collection contains probate case files of deceased persons in South Australia between 1849 and 1935. These files include various records relating to the estates and relationships. Succession Duty Act files record death duties levied under the "Probate and Succession Duty Act, 1876-1892" (Old Act) and "Sucession Duties Act, 1893-1929" (New Act). Duties were not paid on property inherited by the spouse where the value of the property was less than 50 pounds or the duty to be paid was less than 20 pounds. Also included in these records are wills and testaments, bonds, appointments, and other adminstrative records. Additional records and/or images may be added to this collection in the future.
