What is in This Collection?
This collection contains images and index of baptisms (battesimi), marriages (matrimoni), confirmations (cresime), deaths (morti), and church censuses (stato delle anime) from the Catholic Diocese of Noto, San Nicolò Cathedral, province of Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. Availability of records is largely dependent on time period and locality.
Construction of the church began in 1693. Construction of a larger church incorporating the existing church was completed in 1768. In 1848 the dome collapsed and was rebuilt. Another collapse occured in 1996. The reconstructions and rebuilding was completed in 2007.[1] The diocese was established in 1844 from the Diocese of Siracusa.[2]
