FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.


The Buffalo Grove Illinois Family History Center primarily serves Northern Cook County, Illinois, and Lake County, Illinois, but all visitors are welcome to use the Center.

  • Be aware that there are two locations that come up for this address.  The one that usually comes up first is in Wheeling. We are the second entry.  If the directions send you south of Dundee Road, you are going the wrong way.  We are located north of Route 22 and south of Route 45, on North Buffalo Grove Road, just east of the railroad tracks.

Open Hours:

  • Wednesday 10am - 2pm  6:30pm - 9pm
  • Saturday   10am - 2pm
    To enter the library, press the doorbell on the west entrance.  A staff member will let you in.

2016 Holiday Schedule:

  • Closed Apr 2 (Sat) - Spring General Conference
  • Closed Oct 1, (Sat)  - Fall General Conference
  • Closed Oct 12 (Wed) - Building used for Yom Kippur
  • Closed Nov 23 & 26 (Wed and Sat) for Thanksgiving
  • Closed Dec 12 through Jan 3, 2017 for Christmas and New Year's break.
                    We reopen Jan 4, 2017 (Wed)

Lake County Vital Records for Genealogical Research

Online Record Search - The indexes for birth, death and marriage records dated prior to January 1, 1916 may be viewed by the general public at the Lake County Clerk Website.

  • Birth records begin in 1871
  • Marriage licenses begin in 1839
  • Death records begin in 1877


Uncertified copies of birth records on file for at least 75 years and death records on file for at least 20 years are available for purchase at the reduced price of $4.00. These uncertified copies are labeled "For Genealogical Purposes Only".
