FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.


This Family History Center provides genealogical assistance for patrons in the Lewis County Washington area and from southern Thurston County, parts of Pacific County and northern Cowlitz County. It is located in the rear of the Centralia Washington Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Center Resources

Collections

  • FamilySearch Catalog: This center has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the FamilySearch Catalog.

Databases and Software

  • FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.

Hardware and Equipment

The Center is equipped with 6 computers and monitors for on-line research work. These computers are connected to the Family Search Portal, which has access to some other selected third-party web site resources, such as Ancestry.com and Roots Magic 6.
  • The Center also has two microfilm readers, a microfiche reader and a microfilm scanner

Center Services

Staff Research Specialties

The Center is working on getting one or two personnel capable of working with Spanish-speaking patrons and then access and train on Spanish language versions of some of the research software.

Resources in the Local Area

The Lewis County Genealogical Society is close at hand and sometimes uses the Center for training meetings. It also utilizes space in the Center for a fair sized collection of local records.
