Staff Training Meetings
- FamilySearch Catalog: This center has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the FamilySearch Catalog.
Our FHC does have some film and fiche on indefinite loan that are available for anyone to view. When ordering any film or fiche, if you designate the Derby Kansas FHC as your default FHC, the ordering system will tell you if that particular film or fiche is already at our FHC. You may then visit us and view the film free of charge.
Databases and Software
- FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.
In addition to familysearch.org, the FHC Portal has free access to many websites. Some of those websites are:
Access Newspaper Archive
ProQuest Obituary Listings
The American Civil War: Research Database Letters and Diaries Images, Photographs, Posters, and Ephemera Social and Cultural History Women and Social Movements in the United States
19th Century British Library Newspaper Digital Archive
Hardware and Equipment
The Derby Kansas Family History Center has six computers available for patron use. Personal laptops can be used with our internet, but cannot be linked with our network for FHC Portal use or printing. Copies are free (within reason)
We do have older microfilm/microfiche readers and a digital microfilm reader*.
DIGITAL READER/PRINTER NOTICE:
Microfilm/fiche can be viewed, but the scanner/printer process to save or print images is currently not working. If you order films or use film on the premises, images may only be saved by taking pictures with your personal camera. Once images are downloaded and saved on a jump drive, copies may be made free of charge in the FHC (within reason). If you do not have a personal camera, we invite you to make arrangements with the FHC director and she will take the pictures and email images to you. We apologize for any inconvenience. If the situation should change, we will let you know. Thank you. If you have any questions, you are invited to visit with us.
