FamilySearch Indexing:US, County Marriage Records, Additional Helps
Presentation on how to index documents for this project.
Dates - index according to their priority - Example
Q. Should documents pertaining to a name correction for the bride as well as the original record be indexed? A. From the presentation: "All documents related to marriages are indexed."
Q. The "application for marriage license" page often has an area that is "consent to the marriage of a child or ward" there is a check for "father", "surviving parent" or "guardian". The surviving parent is usually a female - do we assume it is the mother and index it as such?
A. 1. If nothing is marked next to "Father," "Surviving parent," or "Guardian," then this rule from the field helps would apply (and a similar rule from the field helps for the mother's name would apply): If the document does not make it clear that a name is the father's name [or the mother's name], do not index it.
2. If the "Surviving parent" field is checked so we know the person was a parent, but it isn't clear whether the name is the father's name or the mother's name, then perhaps we could use this rule: If the document indicates that a name is the name of a parent but you are not sure whether the name is the father's name or the mother's name, index the name in the father's name and surname fields.
