Clarification please: Birthplace/Country field, do not correct spellings or abbreviations in the instructions so, for "Chihuahua, Chih. Mex." ------ should it be "Chihuahua Chih Mex" or just "Mex"? It is more commonly being indexed and arbitrated as just "Mex".

Answer: The instruction in the field help is: "Type the term or terms as they were written. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations." For the example you gave, the field would be indexed as Chihuahua Chih Mex.
