The parish has been around since the creation of Christiansborg Slot. The parish was mainly used by the royal family and the nobility of Denmark. The parish was closed on 1 June 1926.

On 18 June 1930 a new parish, called Christiansborg Slotsogn, was established from the surrounding parishes of Christians, Helligånds, and Vor Frue.
