County Courthouse

County Clerk has marriage records from 1878. County Judge has probate and court records from 1882. Register of Deeds has land records from 1879. Clerk District Court has divorce records from 1879. [2]

1860 Holt County was created 13 January 1860 from unorganized territory. County seat: O'Neill [3]


Holt County is bounded on the north by the Niobrara River, on the east by Knox and Antelope, on the south by Wheeler, on the west by unorganized territory. [4] It is named for Joseph Holt of Kentucky, who was Postmaster General and Secretary of War under President James Buchanan.[5]
