Organized at Fort Scott. Mustered in as a Battalion January 13, 1863.
Designation of Regiment changed to 79th U.S. Colored Troops December 13, 1864.
- 2nd Regiment, Kansas Colored Infantry
Organized at Fort Scott and Fort Leavenworth August 11 to October 17, 1863.
Designation of Regiment changed to 83rd U.S. Colored Troops (New), December 13, 1864.
- Leavenworth Colored Militia Infantry
Called into service October 9, 1864, to repel Price's invasion.
Disbanded October 29, 1864.
