What is in the Collection?

This collection consists records of births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, and burials performed by priests in Bessarabia, which is known primarily as modern day Moldova. These records were acquired from the Moldova State Archive in Chişinău and are written in Russian and Moldovan (virtually the same as Romanian). They cover the years 1811-1936.

These records are written in Russian and in Romania Language and Languages

Collection Contents

Baptism records may contain the following information:

  • Date and place of the event
  • Name of person baptized
  • Date of birth
  • Parents’ names

Marriage records may contain the following information:

  • Date and place of the event
  • Names of the bride and groom
  • Place of birth and residence of the bride and groom
  • Name of witnesses

Death records may contain the following information:'

  • Place and date of death
  • Name of the deceased
  • Occupation of the deceased
  • Place of burial
  • Cause of death

How Do I Search the Collection?

⇒ Select the Browse link in the initial search page
⇒ Select the Province category
⇒ Select the District category
⇒ Select the Place/Parish category
⇒ Select the Year/Vol/Event category which takes you to the images.

Search the collection by image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.
