Known Issues

Question #1: The FamilySearch Historical Records death dates for this collection are off by one (-1) year from the New Jersey Archives death dates. What is the correct death date?
Answer #1: The problem occurred during indexing when the register page header would display a year span such as 1882-1883. What the indexer did not know was that the actual dates are from 1 July 1882 to 30 June 1883. It was intended that July – December months would have the year 1882 assigned as the death date, and January – June months would have the year 1883 assigned as the death date. It would seem that the indexers recorded the wrong year for the months of January – June (off by -1 year). The extent of the problem is indeterminate because the collection covers many years and counties, and was indexed by many individuals. You can access the New Jersey State Archives website directly and read the New Jersey Vital Records wiki for more information.
