Newport City, Vermont
The town of Newport was chartered on October 30, 1802 by the Vermont Legislature. In 1816, a portion of the town of Salem was annexed and is now part of Newport City. Newport City is the shire town (county seat) of Orleans County, Vermont.
The railroads brought about a population boom in the late 1800’s. On March 5, 1918, the city of Newport was formed from portions of former villages of Newport and West Derby.
