(write information such as: how old the parish is, interesting facts about the parish, what alternate names it has, or any boundary changes.)

The parish was established in 1811 as a proper chapel (kapellag) in the Skellefteå parish and was separated in 1834 as a proper parish, at the same time as Jörn's chapel (kappellag) was established in the parish.
The parish was til 1834 in the parish of the Skellefteå country parish and from 1892 to be the mother church in the parish of Norsjö and Jörn. From 1892 the parish is a proper parish. Between 1928 and July 1, 1991 it was divided into two parish registration districts: Norsjö västra (west) and Norsjö (eastern) (Bastuträsk). [2]
