Brief History

Northfield was chartered on August 10, 1781 by the Vermont Legislature.  The town contains the village of Northfield, where over half of its population lives. The total population of the town was 6,207 at the 2010 census.

Northfield is home to the Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the United States and is recognized by the United States Department of Defense as the "Birthplace of ROTC" (Reserve Officers' Training Corps). [1]  [2] [3]
