Research use: To obtain names and residences of person buying or selling land. May help trace ownership of estates from one generation to another. One of the few written sources that gives detail on Colored or African population.

Land records - deeds

Record type: Deeds, mortgages, lessees, bonds.

Time period: 1685 to present.

Contents: Names, relationships, description of property, information on slaves and/or Colored/African servants.

Location: Deed office, Parliament Street, Cape Town, South Africa and various registrars of deeds.

Population coverage: 40% of all groups.[1]
