Talk:Switzerland Church Records (FamilySearch Historical Records)/Known Issues

From FamilySearch Wiki

I've just been over at ancestry.com message boards and they say that one cannot access Switzerland church Records. I thought that was old news. Since everyone can get an LDS login isn't everybody able to access this record set? Question #2 was posted over 6 months ago. Since I don't have a non lds account I can't test it.

  • Question #2: Why do I receive a message that some of the images are unavailable unless I sign in or go to a family history center?
    • Answer #2: FamilySearch has limited rights, granted by the record custodians, to publish images for the diocese of Bern to the following groups: Family History Library, FamilySearch Centers, and patrons with an LDS login (members of the sponsoring organization). Other records may be viewed by all patrons.

Despite much back-and-forth with the actual record custodian for Bern church records (Staatsarchiv Bern) and some folks at familysearch.org, these images still remain inaccessible at the Family History Centers worldwide to registered non-LDS members despite assurances to the contrary.

Many registered non-LDS members that seek access to this collection are contributing volunteers helping with the global indexing project. It would be nice, if this could be resolved soon.

ANSWER: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. These records should be available at a FamilySearch Center. An engineering request has been issued to investigate the problem.
