Changes to header

Two things that I noticed change in the header. I am using IE6:

  1. The text "Anyone can edit.Register" is on a different line than "Forgot Password" where it used to be (was only "Register"). It may be wrapping since it is so long.
  2. The FamilySearch logo is white letters on a light blue background. It is wrong and looks bad. I have seen this before only for a second as the page was being drawn. It almost looks like it is a negative.

I've added this to JIRA, our bug tracking software. Jim Greene will prioritize the bug, determine whether our admin, coder, or stylesheet maven is the right person to fix it, and push through the fix. Ritcheymt 19:46, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Great, thank you. The logo does look terrible. I did not check it out on other browsers, but would think that whoever changed it would have tested it. Anyway, it will be fixed hopefully soon. Thank you. Thomas Lerman 19:53, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

saw the message but didn't think to look at it in Firefox 3.0.8 (latest now) before leaving home! dsammy 19:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Got a chance to check with Firefox. No such problem I can see. At least in IE6 (all at the Family History Library has this version) it did not display properly on both counts. IE7 7.0.5730.13 (that is version I have on my home computer) does not display such problem.

What's worse, whatever affected that, also affected the sign in throughout the wiki, the password portion is out of screen. dsammy 01:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

As requested in the meeting, it is best to report these problems via the "Technical Support" at the bottom of each page. Even though Michael reported my initial find, I sent a message showing several problems. I said showing because I included two screen shots with the problems . . . another thing that was requested. These two issues should be fixed.

The first is actually as designed, here is David Crowther's explanation: "It looks strange because there isn't anything under the username field. When we integrate with CIS there will be a "Forgot user name?" link under there."  So in other words, it looks bad, but it is temporary and was actually designed that way.

Here is the word on the second problem: "This is caused by the transparent PNG file we are using for the logo. Transparent PNGs have this problem in IE 6 and earlier. I put in a fix for it."

Jira

I found the Jira I was talking to Michael about. It's about the strange email notices with 2nd links going to wrong pages. Has this serious problem been fixed? dsammy 01:27, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, we have found the culprit code and fixed it, we are testing it and it should be in production shortly
