What is in the Collection?

This collection will include records from 1799-1911. You may view the records as images and as a partial index. The information includes names of those living within an Orthodox congregation, their ages, and whether or not they attended confession. This can be used as a census substitute.

Image Visibility

Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, ultimate rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. The Ukraine, Kiev Confession Lists collection is available at the Family History Library, FamilySearch Centers, and to members of the supporting organization. Images can be viewed at a FamilySearch Center near you. All rights reserved. Neither this image nor any part of it may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form, electronic or otherwise, without written permission of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine.

Confession lists may contain the following information:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Family structure

How Do I Search the Collection?

To search this collection, it would be helpful to know the following information:

  • Name of parents
  • Name of ancestor
  • Name of siblings
  • Year of birth

Keep in mind:

  • There may be more than one person in the records with the same name.
  • You may not be sure of your own ancestor’s name.
  • Your ancestor may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life.

To search the collection:

Fill in the requested information in the initial search page. This search will return a list of possible matches. Compare the information about the ancestors in the list to what you already know about your ancestors to determine if this is the correct family or person. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to find your ancestor.

To search by image:

⇒ Select 'Browse through images' on the initial collection page
⇒ Select the 'Губерния' category
⇒ Select the 'Уезд' category
⇒ Select the 'Место/Церковь' category
⇒ Select the 'Год тома' category which takes you to the images.

Search the collection by image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine if the image relates to them. You may need to look at several images and compare the information about the individuals listed in those images to your ancestors to make this determination.

Citing this Collection

Citing your sources makes it easy for others to find and evaluate the records you used. When you copy information from a record, list where you found that information. Here you can find citations already created for the entire collection and for each individual record or image.
