German Genealogical Research
Up to half of researchers who seek their ancestors will find at least one who came from Germany or another area where German was spoken or used in record keeping. The records are plentiful, many have been filmed or can be consulted in person, and they provide a wealth of information - much better than US records.
However, you need to locate the exact village where your relatives lived, you need to understand German, as well as Latin and French in some cases. The old style of handwriting can be a challenge, and it is easy to make mistakes if you can't understand every word.
We can help you anywhere the records have been filmed by the FHL. In most other areas we have research professionals who can visit the archives or the parish church on your behalf. We may also be able to assist you or provide guidance in locating your relatives' German homes.
We are not experts in every area and every subject, but if you describe your problem we can tell you whether we can be of any assistance.
