I tried to get the {{reflist}} working, but removed it b/c I couldn't. If you are interested in getting it working, let me know, and I we can try to figure it out. Thanks The Earl 13:30, 14 March 2008 (MDT)

Wales and the IGI

browse the articles about Wales

England events page.

Here's a page with a whole raft of events that you might be able to put on the England events portlet.

Includes the National fair in September.  Some have websites including the larger National fair. JamesAnderson 22:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Upload of images blocked

I'm no longer able to upload images. When I try to do so I get a message: "The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups Sysops, Moderator, Reviewer." bromaelor 11:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Wales Intro

Is the info on "The Coal House" in the correct sections here? Wouldn't it be more appropriate in the "Did you know section"? I prefered the original historic intro? I've added to the Cefn Mawr Resources Centre page. bromaelor

I actually think you are correct. My purpose is to make some sort of connection to the new BBC series and possibly pull some people to the wiki from their web site. There may be a lot better way to do this. I will talk to a couple of people here to see what they think on the basic design issue. I'd really like a way for the Portal:Wales page to highlight the CoalHouse series and then lead people to some of what you have written and maybe some other things we might add before October. I think it needs to be seen without scrolling. Maybe we could change something else. Darris 21:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Darris, I appreciate the words and as it is on wikipedia expect everything to be edited merciless:) ,Thank you davide 23:34, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Locked article need some adjustment

Darris, could you take a look at Talk:Life and Traditions in Rural Wales. The article needs a couple of typo corrections but it has been locked. bromaelor 17:38, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Bromaelor, I don't have the volume for the British topics here at work but will look for it at home and check into this. Darris 21:38, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Beginners Corner

Should this read "Beginners' Corner"??? bromaelor 11:34, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

I see that you have changed this, thanks. I had been told by one of the tech people that this change would require a new page/box. Were you able to fix it without going to that extent and just add '? Darris 13:05, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

All that is needed is to:

(1) Edit - Portal:Wales/Beginners Corner

(2) Move - to Portal:Wales/Beginners' Corner

(3) Edit - Portal:Wales to reflect the new spelling (there should be three occurrences) bromaelor 15:41, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Place Names

Deric John has a site up which may prove helpful but should be investigated further. The address is and I should probably check with him before adding a link. Darris 13:05, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I think we need to establish his sources to avoid any copyright problems? bromaelor

Images and text

So setting the alignment of an image to the "left" was causing the text problems? Does setting it to "right" or "center" do the same? If so this has to be a bug in the wiki! This does not happen on Wikipedia. bromaelor 16:40, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that idea will get far without some detail so I will test it out. You make a good point but I've learned that even when I think there is enough detail in a bug report it is not enough. I will test your idea on Portal:Radnorshire. Darris 17:23, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, I changed the alignment to right for all three images in the Portal:Radnorshire page but the images are still on the left. I would guess that either the code is in the wrong place making it not work or there is something broken. Darris 17:40, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

The message I received about the fix to the image overlapping text follows:

"The problem was caused from having the images in a separate table cell AND having the image alignment set (in this case to "left"). I removed the alignment setting from the images. The page now displays correctly in IE6 & IE7. In Firefox 3, the first image did not and still does not show up. I haven't figured that out yet, but I haven't spent a lot of time on it either. I haven't looked at the page in Firefox 2 or any other browser."

I wonder if the problem had more to do with the table than the alignment? Darris 17:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Wales category

The Wales category is now becoming to big to handle. I'm going to remove many of the articles from the top category and relay on the sub categories e.g. Denbighshire. bromaelor 09:09, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't put too much work into the categories yet. Marc Feickert is working on something called Symantic Media Wiki that will change the way categories are dealt with. The upgrade to using the Symantic structure should improve search results significantly. I would continue to categorize using sub categories until the change is made. Darris 14:35, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Wales Census

Can you take a look at Wales Census and Wales Census Dates. Are both needed? I think the second article could be deleted as the information it contains is already in the first? bromaelor 10:13, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Done! Thanks for catching that. Darris 14:04, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Caernarfon Nonconformists

The only alternative I could suggest would be to abandon some of the columns and to make as much use of the vertical space available, e.g. put all chapel information in the Chapel column and combine all registers into one column? For example:

Chapel Published Source Registers Available
Calvinistic Methodist
Founded: by 1828

Baptisms: 1828 to 1833 (NLW)
Marriages: none
Burials: none
Aber Chapel
Wesleyan Methodist
Founded: by 1827

Baptisms: none
Marriages: none
Burials: none

I'm not sure what you intend putting into the 'Published Source' column? bromaelor 14:23, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I really like this. My idea for the 'Published Source' column was along the lines of what you have done for Denbighshire. With some counties this would be nearly useless while others, as demonstrated on your page for Denbighshire, would have lots of content in the published source column.

Darris 17:20, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, you go ahead with Caernarfon and (hopefully) tomorrow I'll make a start on re-styling Fflint. bromaelor 18:33, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Moderator/Adopter issues coming to a vote

As you probably already know, FamilySearch launched an Adopt-a-Page program at the Federation of Genealogical Societies conference over the summer. Many groups are signing up to adopt a page. We need your help in order to resolve some important questions about the relative roles that Moderators and Adopters ought to play and how they can work together. These questions and discussions are on the new FamilySearch Wiki Contributors' Corner forum. We are going to hold a vote on these issues by year's end, and the resolutions will change the roles Moderators and Adopters play, so please visit the forum and add your thoughts. Thanks!
