The Kittanning Regiment was so named because it was headquartered in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. Brief History

Organized from 15 July to 15 September 1776 at Kittanning, Pennsylvania in the western part of the state to consist of eight companies of infantry from Bedford, Cumberland, Westmoreland Counties.[1]

The Kittanning Regiment was so named because it was headquartered in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. The companies were collected from the present-day counties of Westmoreland, Greene, Fayette, Somerset, Washington, Armstrong, Allegheny, Beaver, Bedford, Fulton. It was originally formed in 1774 as a patrol on the frontier during the Pennsylvania and Virginia boundary dispute. In 1776 it was transferred to the Continental Army.[2]
