Adlington, Lancashire Genealogy
Adlington is a town in Lancashire, England, near the West Pennine Moors and the larger town of Chorley. A chapelry called St Paul was created by 1839 from the ancient parish of Standish, Lancashire, and flourished around the textile industry.
The present church dates from 1883 and replaced the earlier church:
The church of St. Paul, erected in 1883-4, from designs by Messrs T. D. Barry and Son, of Liverpool, consists of chancel, with organ chamber and vestries, nave, aisles and south porch : the pulpit and font are of Caen stone and marble : there are 646 sittings, all of which are free. The register dates from the year 1839. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £300, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Manchester, and held since 1839 by the Rev. Thomas Carpenter M.A. of Trinity College, Dublin.
