Alturas County was an original county in [[Portal:Idaho|Idaho]] Territory, created in 1864. It was abolished in 1895 to create Blaine and Lincoln Counties. Most of the county courthouse records were retained by Blaine County. <!--{12041528995730} -->

Alturas County, Idaho was created 4 February 1863 from the Idaho Territory. Parts were taken to create Custer 8 January 1881 and Elmore County 7 February 1889, then the county was dissolved and split into Blaine and Lincoln counties 5 March 1895 and 18 March 1895 respectively ito circumvent a recent state supreme court decision striking down an earlier county reorganization. Named for "mountain summits"

The county seat was Rocky Bar until 1882 when it was relocated to Hailey.
