This Collection will include records from 1645 to 1930 for the country of Argentina.  The earliest vital records in Argentina were made by the churches. In 1886 the civil government began keeping vital records. Even though the law was passed in 1886 most of the provinces started keeping records at different times. Most had the system going by 1900.

The collection's index is not complete for any particular place or region and may include information previously published in the International Genealogical Index or Vital Records Index collections.

Look at each record comparing the information with what you already know about your relatives to determine if the records relates to them. You may need to look at several records and compare the information about the individuals listed to your relatives to make this determination. Keep in mind there may be more than one person in the records with the same name and you will want to look carefully at dates, places and relations to identify your relative from another person. You also may not be sure of your own relative’s name if they were known by a nickname or changed their name from the original birth record name. Your relative may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life and may be listed in records with any of those variations.

When you copy information from the record, you should list where you found the information. This will help you or others to find th record again. It is also good to keep track of records where you do not find information, including the names of the people you looked for in the records.

What is in the Collection?

This Collection will include records from 1645 to 1930 for the country of Argentina. The earliest vital records in Argentina were made by the churches. In 1886 the civil government began keeping vital records. Even though the law was passed in 1886 most of the provinces started keeping records at different times. Most had the system going by 1900.

This collection may include information previously published in the International Genealogical Index or Vital Records Index collections.

Children were generally baptized within a few days of birth. Baptismal records usually give the place and date of baptism and birth, infant's name and parents' names. If the child died within a few days of baptism, the death information may also be included.

You also may not be sure of your own relative’s name if they were known by a nickname or changed their name from the original birth record name. Your relative may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life and may be listed in records with any of those variations.
