In 1829 the population in the Duchy of Braunschweig was 229,805, by 1852 the population rises to 271,208, by 1910 there are 494,339 inhabitants. In 1855 31% of the population lives in cities. By 1900 46% of the population lives in cities. The dominant religion is  Evangelical-Lutheran (in 1862=98.5%, in 1900=93%). In 1862 there are 1% Catholics, 0.4% Jews. In 1900 the Catholics rise to 5% and there are 1% Reformed.
