Brief History

Originally this area was known as Township No. 1 East of Penobscot River, Livermore Survey (T1 EPR LS) or Township No. 1 West of Union River.[1] Buckstown existed as a plantation before it was incorporated as the town of Buckstown in 1792. The name was changed to Bucksport 1817.[2]

Bucksport land was set off to Orrington in 1816; to Brewer in 1841, again to Orrington in 1850, and to Dedham in 1909. Moreover, Verona Island was once part of Bucksport.[1]
