Description

The county was named in honor of Gen. Lewis Cass, who was one of the commissioners of the United States, and did much to consummate the treaties with the Indians, by which the Government became the possessor of the lands that now constitute the county. It's county seat is Logansport and was founded December 18, 1838.[3] It is located in the Mid-central area of the state.[4]

Taxation

Indiana tax records complement land records and can be used in place of censuses or to supplement the years between censuses. Copies may be obtained from the county health department or the Indiana State Division of Vital Records. See also How to order Indiana Vital Records or order electronically online.

Marriage licenses were required by counties beginning in 1800. Original marriage records are held at the office of the Cass County, Indiana Genealogy County Clerk with divorce records located with the Cass County, Indiana Genealogy Clerk of Courts.
