The term Hessian may refer to:
- a person from one of the areas of Germany called Hesse,
- or, a mercenary soldier who spoke German and was hired by the British to help fight in the American Revolution, no matter their German place of origin in or out of an area called Hesse.
This category refers to the latter.
As a hired man, an individual Hessian's contract could be, and often was sold usually to an individual American farmer as a laborer.
