Category talk:Ethnic, Political, or Religious Groups

I thought ethnic was synonymous with racial. But political groups are also significant to genealogists. For example, Loyalists, Confederates, Roundheads, and Jacobites are just a few political groups that genealogists occassionally need to understand. Maybe a better name for this category would be Ethnic, Political, and Religious Groups of the World. Diltsgd 03:57, 19 June 2008 (UTC

Beautiful catch, David. Now I gotta see if I can rename or "move" this category. Ritcheymt 17:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC

Uh oh -- can't move a category, so we gotta create a new one with a better title. Lucky we don't have many subcategories in this category because once the new category is created, we'll have to reclassify all this category's subcategories into the new category and delete this category. (I'm now categorically exhausted!) David, will you check to see how WikiPedia and Library of Congress authorities titles the categories relating to "groups of people?" Maybe we can use a more general term so we don't have to delete/rename this category every time we think of another type of group that it should include. Ritcheymt 17:42, 20 June 2008 (UTC

The sub catgegories of this category need to include more ethnic groups to click on. Maori, for instance, or Hawaiian (not a country or a state, but an ethnic group). People from these groups would benefit from some extra help in finding themselves. Please consider "People groups" rather than racial or ethnic for your category name. Multi-cultural experts, such as Caleb Jensen and his worldwide Bible organization, find this to be a useful term.
