Biographies are books whose main subject is the history and life of a specific man, woman, or family. In Copenhagen, biographies were not very common before the latter half of the 20th century (see Denmark: Biographies). Most biographies written are usually about prominent men of the city and nobility.
Biographies can give genealogical information of an individual along with stories of his/her life. They are helpful in guiding research to other records. Because it is a secondary source, all informtaion should be scrutinized and the biographies should be used as a "blueprint" for verifying all information.
For accessing biographies, check the catalogs and inventories of local libraries and archives in Copenhagen. Also check the holdings of local booksellers.
