Stephen Decatur (1779-1820)

The county was named after U.S. naval officer Stephen Decatur (1779-1820).[1]

  • 1821--Decatur County was formed 17 December 1821 from Jackson County.
  • 1824--Abolished 1824 and the territory returned to Jackson County.
