From 1800 to 1868 [[Edgefield County, South Carolina|''Edgefield County'']]  was also known by the alias of ''Edgefield District''. The 1868 Constitution changed all ''districts''  to ''counties''. For more information, see [[Edgefield County, South Carolina|Edgefield County]].
Edgefield District was formed 2 March 1785 from [[Ninety-Six District, South Carolina|Ninety-Six]] District. The district was reorganized in 1865 to [[Edgefield County, South Carolina|Edgefield County]]. No further divisions occured.
