If your ancestor went to one of England’s colleges, universities, or schools, he may be in the institution’s enrollment records. Some of these records have been published, notably for the 16th to the 19th centuries.
School records may contain valuable information about your ancestor: his or her name, birthplace, residence, father’s name, and other biographical details. The Family History Library has some school records, notably for Oxford and Cambridge universities. School records are found in the Place Search of the Family History Library Catalog under one of the following:
ENGLAND - SCHOOLS
ENGLAND, [COUNTY] - SCHOOLS
ENGLAND, [COUNTY], [PARISH] - SCHOOLS
