Germany Births and Baptisms (FamilySearch Historical Records)/Known Issues
The following are known issues for Germany Births and Baptisms, 1558-1898; Germany Deaths and Burials, 1582-1958; and Germany Marriages, 1558-1929.
Problem #1 - Previously available records can no longer be found or are missing.
Answer to Problem #1 - Originally the three German collections were published as one unit. They were subsequently republished into three separate collections and some of the records were omitted. This is a known issue and is being researched by the project managers to determined when and if the purged records can be recovered.
The records were extracted from microfilms found in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, before the current digitization and indexing programs existed. The index includes a “source film number” which is the number of the microfilm in the family history library.
You can order and view this microfilm at a local FamilySearch Center. For instructions, see: "Ordering Microfilm or Microfiche from a Family History Center"
Another option is to order a copy of the record through our Photoduplication Services department. For information and an order form, see: Photoduplication Services
Problem #2 - Some of the localities are indexed wrong or transcribed incorrectly.
Answer to Problem #2 - Records from Germersheim and Kandel were indexed incorrectly as coming from Bayern (Bavaria) and not from Rheinland-Pfalz.
