Protecting and unprotecting pages require moderator permission.

Protecting a page

You can designate a page as a protected page by clicking the 'Protect page' tab, and supplying a brief reason why you are protecting the page. Once protected you should add the template {{protected}} to the top of the page to indicate it's new status.

There are several reasons why a particular page might be protected.

On public wikis, a protected page is usually one which has been repeatedly targeted with vandalism, or where it is believed that any vandalism would have a severe impact. On corporate wikis, a page may be protected when the content has been frozen via an approval process.

However there are also many good reasons for not protecting pages. As a moderator you must make this choice and use your power responsibly.

Request a page be protected

Moderators can protect pages so any contributor can request that a page be protected. The Moderator will protect the page by using the template {{protect}} on the page and add the reason why the page is protected to the discussion/talk page.
