Parish History

HIGHAM-ON-THE-HILL (St. Peter), a parish,in the hundred of Sparkenhoe, S. division of the county of Leicester, 3 miles (N. E.) from the town of Nuneaton.[1]

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Higham on the Hill like this:

HIGHAM-ON--THE-HILL, a village and a parish in Hinckley district, Leicester. The village stands near the Ashby-de-la-Zouch canal, Watling street, the boundary with Warwickshire, and the Leicester and Nuneaton railway, 2½ miles NE of Nuneaton.
