FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

Center Resources


  • Family History Library Catalog: This center has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the Family History Library Catalog.
  • (List additional collections you have such as the types of books and microfilm you have on indefinite loan; though you will not want to list every single item you have. Just give visitors to this page a general idea of your resources.)
  • The hardcover library includes mostly books of instruction in doing research.  There are a few family histories.

Databases and Software

  • FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions. 
  • The 100 most used books on fiche are available as well as selected fiche with records of various regions.  Also there are some film on indefinite loan which are available for patrons to use.  All resources are for use in the center only.

Hardware and Equipment

  • Six computers, two film readers and two fiche readers are available in the center.  Copies of printed materials are 10 cents each.

Resources in the Local Area

Marshall University Library, located on Marshall's campus has a very good collection of records from West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and the Civil War Era.
