Beginning Genealogy: Skills for Successful Research
Has the time come for you to: Learn more about your family’s place in history? Verify family stories? Get past dead ends on your family tree? If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may want to attend a series of 4 classes designed to provide beginning family historians with the skills needed for successful research.
Beginning Thursday, February 6, this 4 week series of beginning classes will meet 10 am-12 noon in the Oakland FamilySearch Library in the multimedia classroom. During this series of hands-on computer oriented classes the students will focus on individual family research goals and developing effective research plans. There will be short homework assignments each week to practice new skills.
By the end of the series, participants should be able to:
• Determine which records to look for
• Identify where to find the records
• Document the results of the search
• Evaluate the records for reliability
A guided tour of the California Genealogical Society’s Library at 2201 Broadway, Oakland will be arranged at the end of the class series where you will find books, periodicals and resources to support your ongoing genealogy research. Registration
