Out Rawcliffe St John was created a district chapelry by 1840 from, and lying within the boundaries of St Michael on Wyre Ancient Parish.
St John Church was built in 1838 in the Romanesque style by John Deerhurst, the year after he had designed Preston Prison.
Out Rawcliffe is a village and civil parish on the north bank of the River Wyre in the Over Wyre area of the Fylde in Lancashire.
"RAWCLIFFE, OUT, a township with a district chapel,in the parish of St. Michael Garstang, union of Garstang, hundred of Amounderness, N. division of Lancashire, 4½ miles northeast by east of Poulton. The chapel, St. John's, was built in 1838."
