Location: South of Cimarron on Road 21 to Miami. North of junction with State Route 199.
About 20 miles west of Springer. This is on Private Property.

History: A former settlement by the name of Abreu was located here on the Rayado River. It was named for a prominent family and owners of a large ranch in the Maxwell land Grant (Lucien Maxwell and Luz Beaubien). Manuel Abreu, grandson of Manuel Abreu - Governor of New Mexico, was in the sheep and cattle business with Pablo Beaubien, Luz's brother. He was also Director of the First National Bank of Fort Sumner. Lucien Maxwell's daughter Amelia Maxwell married Manuel Abreu. After her death, daughter Odile Bernice Maxwell married Manuel Abreu.

Location: North of State Road 21/199 whch runs between Springer, NM and Cimarron, NM, and between
Rayado, NM and Miami, NM. Take County Road C-6 north, off of 21/199 and east of Miami Lake.
When C-6 turns east, go west for 1/2 block. It is on the right (north) side.

History: Antonio Valdez, who was a prominent rancher and store owner in Taos County, moved to Colfax County in
1870, and settled on 12,000 acres. He continued mercantile operations in Springer.
