=== Description ===
 +
The county was originally created in 1873 but not organized until 1910.
 +
It was named after Joseph Renville
 +
The first Renville County was created by the 1872-73 Dakota Territory legislature, but was dissolved because of too little settlement. The name was then brought back in the 1908 general election under a proposal to divide Ward County. Though defeated on election day, the matter went to court, which led to the creation of the present-day Renville County in 1910.
 +
The county government was first organized on July 23, 1910, with Mohall as the county seat.
 +
The county's name honors Joseph Renville, an important figure who acted as interpreter and translator in dealings between white men and the Sioux.<ref>http://genealogytrails.com/ndak/renville/ accessed 09/29/2016</ref>

Land and Property Records

When the United States acquired North Dakota, most of the land became available for homesteading or purchase from the federal government. After land was transferred from the government to private owners, the registrar of deeds in each county recorded the land transactions in the form of deeds and mortgages. For more information, see North Dakota Land and Property.
