1784--Sampson County was created from Duplin County. County seat: Sampson Court House (ca. 1785-1818); Clinton (1818-present).
Early court records are missing partially caused by Federal sympathizers in 1865 and clerk's office fire of 1921. Early deed books of Duplin County prior to 1784 are listed herein.
