Somervell County was created and organized 13 March 1875 from Hood and Johnson counties. Organized as Somerville County (name changed to Somervell in 1876). Courthouse and many, if not all, court records were destroyed by fire in February 1893. County seat: Glen Rose. The first settlement was in 1859 at Springton.
