For most of the United States, births were not recorded until the 20th century on a state level.  Because so few birth records exist, other records are used to locate birth information.  Below is a list of records that may give the birth date and place of your ancestor:

Death Records
  • County death records often include the age of the deceased
  • State death records ask for the birth date and place of the deceased
Social Security Application
Census Records
Cemetery Records
Church Records
Military Records
Bible Records
