[Description of the state]
Táchira is in the south west end of the country. It limits the north with the state Zulia, to the south with the state Apure and the Republic of Colombia, to the east with the state Mérida and Barinas and to the west with the Republic of Colombia.
The present state of Táchira was considered place of passage between Colombian Andean soil and the state of Mérida. It is well as on 1561 the city of San Cristóbal, located in the northeastern sector of the depression of the Táchira is based, with access to three channels: Pamplona, Mérida and the lake of Maracaibo.Politically the organization settles down as the province of Táchira in 1856. Later in 1863 figure like the state of Táchira, soon in 1867 it is annexed to the state of Zulia. In 1881 it happens to comprise of the Great State of the Andes, until the Restoration Revolution in 1899 give back its category of state.
