Flip-Flopped Sidebars?

What's the purpose behind the flip-flopping of the topic sidebar? Dsammy

It gives contributors more room to work with below the sidebar. Notice how having the sidebar on the right allows ALL the space below the sidebar to be used more easily. Below the navbars All the way from the far left margin to the far right margin can be used with the sidebar on the right. With the sidebar on the left I have not yet figured out how to move the main body of the text over to the left margin because the left sidebar seems to block that left side from being fully used.
