Creation of template

I've changed the style of this template to mirror Template:Pov more closely as this is the style that I'll be making some other maintenance templates in the near future. Of course, they can all be changed as needed. Molliewog 20:17, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I've changed the wording on this template so that the main "delete" template is for inappropriate content. Given that inappropriate content is that which we want to delete the fastest, I think it should have the easiest template name to remember when it comes to deletion. For other sysop deletion requests, we can create new templates that more accurately describe the reason to delete (like duplicate images). Molliewog 18:59, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Documentation and Examples

Thank you Steve for adding the comment parameter. We would like to edit this template (and all other templates) to include the documentation and examples by using the Documentation template. I noticed the comment parameter was added to this template, but users don't typically know to make use of the parameter. Instead of adding these instructions inside the 'noinclude' statement to the template page itself (which is how the templates are operating today), the preference is to move all instructions to the /Doc sub-page and then transclude the details onto the template page. (I'm still learning the terminology, so I hope that I am making sense.) Thanks again, Fran 19:14, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I have made some changes to the template so that the documentation is transcluded from the /doc subpage. I updated the instructions to include an example using the parameter to note the reason for the request. I have also added the ability to add a blank category parameter so that when the template is used in an example (see Maintenance Templates), the automatic category can be suppressed. --Steve 23:05, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Results of deleting a page

When a page in the wiki has the delete template added to the page, the page appears on the list of all pages that contain the delete template. What happens to the page after it's deleted when the template was still on the page at the moment the delete action was taken? This is hard to describe, but I was thinking that since deleted pages can be restored, then the page exists somewhere. So does the delete template on the deleted page still force the page to be added to a list of delete requests? Bottom line is - should the delete template be removed from the page prior to deleting the page? --Fran 16:12, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Wording change

I like the wording change to be more of a proposal. The person who adds the template to the page should also explain why they are proposing the deletion. The wording change only included the request for the whole page. Is there a need to have another template for proposing the deletion of a section of a page? -Fran 17:00, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't think an additional template for deleting a section is needed. I've never seen the template used other than to mark a whole page for deletion. Most deletion proposals are to delete pages with incorrect titles or duplicate pages where the content has been merged into another article. If these cases only applied to a section (wrong title/duplicate information) then users can edit the section in question or leave a {{ToDo}} note if they don't have time. Maybe a specific template to mark a section that requires editing with the ability to leave a specific reason, but I think the range of other Maintenance Templates particularly the general all-purpose {{ToDo}} template covers this need already. Do you think changing this template to only cover whole pages is leaving a gap in the maintenance tools? --Steve 07:25, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
No, I think you are right. Let's proceed as-is with the template the way it's designed right now. I've noticed that these maintenance templates are now wider than the content area available on the wiki pages and have caused the template to increase in size vertically. If you change any of the templates, would you also look at fixing the size issues so they aren't so big? -Fran 14:33, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
