Schlotheim citizenship records 1545-1845

The recording of citizenship records of Schlotheim began in 1545, thirty years before the baptismal registers began. Included in such lists are the names of those who received documented birth certificates, in which were also mentioned the place where these people intended to move to. As known from other similar records, the first entries do not reveal more than the name of the new citizen and what year they received citizenship. Later years divulge more and more usable facts about the persona of the applicant. Most citizens originated from surrounding villages of Schlotheim, but there are also those, who came from more remote corners of Germany.

The author, Erich Evers, a pastor from Schlotheim, established the citizenship lists and published them in Archiv für Sippenforschung, 19 Jahrgang, Heft 1 (1942), starting with page 13. The periodical can be retrieved through FamilySearch, Family History Library catalog, call number 943 B2as.
